»mitgehört« This episode: Raban Ruddigkeit, Designer & Author, Berlin

Martin: Dear Raban! Nice to have you with us! Would you please introduce yourself briefly?

Raban: Dear M.E., thank you for the kind invitation. I’ll summarize what i’ve done up to now: at 16, together with friends, i developed and published the first and last fanzine of the GDR. then i was a stage painter, comic artist, editor-in-chief of a cultural magazine that belonged to a civic-movement weekly. from that emerged Kreuzer, the leipzig city magazine that still exists today. There i was art director, columnist, cartoonist, record reviewer, interviewer of pop stars, and in the end i was responsible for three city magazines for Dresden, Halle, and Leipzig.

Alongside that, i always did a bit of design for theaters, bands, and civic engagement. In the mid-nineties i moved to Berlin to learn more about professional communication at the legendary agency Scholz & Friends. After a few years i went freelance again and opened a small agency under my own name. That was about 10 employees, until planes fell from the sky in New York. Then i spent a few years as a creative in Frankfurt/main and Munich, and almost 20 years ago i returned to berlin.

Here a design studio emerged that also became internationally known. Two or three years ago i made another shift and at the moment i’m focusing on writing and conceptualizing. As well as my work in the communications sector for agencies and media organisations, I also work as a editor and teacher.
