When Raban Ruddigkeit told us, what feels like half a lifetime ago, about his idea for a daily tear-off calendar devoted to type design, we were thrilled. But it was summer, and the calendar sales season for retailers had long since passed. We didn’t know that. And when someone told us, we thought, “Well, the new year is still a long way off.” Sometimes it pays to ignore an industry’s unwritten rules! Typodarium came out in October and became a runaway success. It captivated type nerds, of course, but also people who had never quite realised how endlessly varied typefaces could be—and were delighted to find out.
